Wait...what?
Dude, you've never watched V for Vendetta.
I mean, it's a film adapted from one of Alan Moore's finest works.

Re: V for Vendetta
It's a story on a future society of Britain, where a facist regime as come to power.
An anarchist in the real form, named V, arises and attempts to overthrow the government.
It's not about super heroes or such, but the symbolism his beautiful. I consider it superior to watchmen.

Why yes, I am indeed inferior to Watchmen. I hardly have the depth of the comic, but what in the world are you doing matching a person with a work of fiction?
Dude, just shut it and read the darn thing.
It's an awesome novel. I prefer it to Watchmen because of the subjects it handles, not because of the actual story or characters. But one a side note, I find V very similar to Rorschach in some aspects.

It was on TV last night, on a channel called TOON. Seemed like a odd movie for that station as they mostly show stuff for younger viewers, this was rated 18+

Re: V for Vendetta
lol that is weird!
wait, I think Titanic was on TBS a few months ago, and that's a strictly comedy channel!
"hahaha, look at that boat sink! thousands of people died!" not really comedy...at all...
I was a bad little girl and downloaded V for Vendetta, which I will watch later

Re: V for Vendetta
it is always difficult with movies adapted from Alan Moore´works, since he hates them so much, I always feel a bit guilty liking the movies, as if I am going against the author himself.
The problem with V according to Alan Moore is that he said the work was specifically about a time and a place, england under tacher, even if it was set in the future, it was an alegory.
So basically what he said americans don´t have the guts or the originality, to make a current alegory about usa under bush, so they just stole his.
Which basically is the sad true, same thing with watchmen it is very much a work of it´s time, the cold war, but they try to make it a reflection of these times, and it feels kind of forced.
And maybe in the UK in the 80's it was ok to cheer for an anarchist that is basically a terrorist, with the whole represive government, and IRA thing going on, but in the current world, after 9/11, the train attacks in Madrid, and the ones in London, that just happen around the time the movie was to be premiered, it is not cool.
So for me the whole context behind the movie is wrong, and I agree with Moore on this.
Now judging the movie by itself independently from the original work and the context, and the opinion of the author, i think it is quite a cool movie, very well done, and kind of redemed the wachowsky bros after the fiasco that where the matrix sequels.
But while the movie is a good piece of entretainment, the graphic novel is gorund breaking art, so it cannot compare.... same thing with watchmen, movie=cool entrtainment, graphic novel=masterpiece.

Hardly. I think in the case of Watchmen and V, both are a masterpiece of adaptations. The best in their gender of movies. The comics, are not a masterpiece, but legends, not just of the comic book media, but of media in general.

Re: V for Vendetta
Sadly I disagree with you, neither Watchmen and much less V for vendetta could be considered cinematic masterpieces.
Watchmen is a great adaptation, possibly the most literal adaptation of a comic, and talking about watchmen this an amazing achievment, so as a comic adaptation I considered it superb, as a companion piece for the graphic novel exelent.
But as a movie, standing by itself independently from the source material, it cannot be considered a masterpiece at all, the pacing of the movie is very uneven, is more literary than cinematographic, also the for the most part it just does a copy, paste from the page to the screen, neither the script writer, nor the director, or the actors, say anything new, it lacks an independent voice, it just rehashes the source material does not expand upon it or reinterpret it (which considering the source material and the sanctity of it, is the best they could do, don´t get me wrong), and for it´s enjoyment requires the audience to be familiar with the source or at least the genre.
A movie should stand by itself as a unique expereinse, I have never read a Harry Potter book or Da Vinci code, and I don´t intend too, but I find the movies quite enjoyable, someone can enjoy spider man, or dark knight without ever having read a comic in their lives.
Of course if we read the source material, our cinemathic experiense would be richer, but is not necesary, I believe unless you have read the graphic novel, or at least are comic fan, you will be compleatly lost in watchmen, your experiense would be incomplete.
Therfore It cannot stand by itself as a movie, therefore it cannot be a cinematic masterpiece.
But still it is an amazing cinematic experiment, and a fantastic achivement.
On the other hand, V for Vendetta for me, is nothing more than an entretaining, pleasant movie, yes you watch it an enjoy it, but nothing more, so It cannot be a masterpiece.
But then again, this is just my opinion.
