My views on DBE....

Hi there guys. I'm new here, but I've been through this site a couple of times already. Anyway, I need a place to vent my anger towards that HORRIBLE DBE movie, and this seems to be the place to do that. So without further ado, here are some of my views on what went wrong with this movie:

1) Bad, BAD Script:

The script is the foundation of any movie, so if the script is bad then the movie almost certainly will be. And boy, is DBE's script terrible! Since there are so many things wrong with it, I'll concentrate on one or two key aspects of it.

Firstly, the whole "High-School" plot device.

WRONG!!!
That isn't Dragonball. Going to High School, trying to fit in, picking up chicks, hiding your powers, and being looked down on as a Nerd is Gohan, Goku's (eldest) son! NOT Goku! If they wanted to do the "High School" thing, then the movie should have been DBZ, Goku and Chi-Chi renamed Gohan and Videl, and the school named Orange Star High. (Incidentally, if you pretend that Goku and Chi-Chi are Gohan and Videl in the movie, then it starts to make a bit more sense - not that I'm advocating that you go watch that movie. ) Oh, and Gohan would spend his spare time fighting crime as the Great SaiyanMan, or whatever.

Secondly, the script writer. The script writer (the forever damned Ben Ramsey ) seems to have just looked DB up on Wikepedia, said to himself "oh, I get it.... it's Streetfighter for kids" and written the script accordingly. He's written a dark, emo "Streetfighter for Kids" instead of a comical, up-beat fantasy adventure story which is what DB really is about.

2) Goku:

Oh dear, where to begin. Chatwin is NOT Goku. Heck, Chatwin isn't a good actor full stop! (Go back to Canada and flip burgers for a living Chatwin! ) In fact, Goku's whole character is wrong in this movie. Goku in DBE is more like Goku's son Gohan - all nerdy, self doubting and shy.

Also, Goku SHOULD have been played by an Asian. (And a kid no less) Having Goku as an emo American High School student played by a 27 year old white Canadian makes about as much sense as Superman been casted as an emo Japanese High School student played by a 27 year old Chinese man!!!

Finally, the Oozaru thing. (Did I spell that right?) I don't buy the director's Bull "you-know-what" about 50 foot Great Ape's not looking "realistic" - just watch Peter Jackson's King Kong movie and tell me why a 50 foot Oozaru wouldn't work!?! The crappy looking 7 foot were-wolf ripoff they had (No tail, and no full moon required - come ON James Wong, these are basic tenants of DB/DBZ! ) was insultingly stupid!!!

Anyway, this is just the beginning. I hope to post views on other parts of the Craptastic DBE over the next few days. Until then.....

Me, I couldn't bare to watch more then a half hour of the movie. It felt nothing like dragonball, the actors didn't suit the characters, and it looks like it could have been made a lot better. The fight with Goku and Roshi (I believe) was just... just terrible.

Similar to mine but I want all the actors to have horrible lives starve and stuff.

Sorry for the wait - I've been pretty sick lately. (Feeling better now. )

Anyway... let me talk about Bulma:

Since when has Bulma been a fighter - ANY kind of fighter?!? There was no need for Bulma to be a fighter. Now, I have no problem with kick-arse action-chicks, but Bulma isn't one of them. Bulma is a (somewhat spoiled, rich) scientist - having Bulma fight when DB already has a girl that can kick arse (Chi-Chi in DB, Android 18 in DBZ, and Pan in DB GT) is unnecessary, somewhat redundant (with Chi-Chi also in the movie), and simply too far removed from her original role/persona. Bulma is the "Girly Nerd", Chi-Chi the fighting girl - get it right James Wong!!!

No Blue Hair..... hmmm. This has been a real point of contention - Blue hair, or no Blue hair? The answer is she SHOULD have Blue hair. Why? Because it is her most defining physical characteristic! If you were to ask anyone to describe Bulma, the first thing that comes to mind is Blue hair! I don't buy the argument that Blue hair wouldn't be "realistic" - when you do a movie about a kid with a tail who flies around on a golden cloud collecting magical wishing-balls while battling green aliens and shape-shifting pigs, with the help of a perverted hermit and a bald midget, then the last thing you should be worried about is whether Blue hair is realistic or not!

Finally, what's her name Rossum. Your acting was terrible - you did a poor job of trying to make your character interesting. I could not get into your character at all. (In fairness, she did have to work with a bad script but she could still could have "LOOKED" like she wanted to be there, geez... )
