Who here still owns VHS tapes?
I for one do, alot of them in fact.
I have somewhere between 30 - 40 DVD's, I got more around 90 - 100 VHS tapes, if not more.
The way I see it, why upgrade to DVD, all your buying is added features and ultimately only wasting money with re-buying all your old movies. I only buy DVD now because they stopped making new movies on VHS.

DVD does have it's advantages but I'm also a bit sentimentally attached to VHS tapes. It's something that was a part of my childhood. We would usually go and rent one for the weekend. So I don't have many that I own.

Meh I only watch movies when I'm home or to a friends. Don't watch movies out camping or in a vehicle or etc, I mainly listen to music then.

My VHS player would often broke down. That was the only frustrating thing about it.

Did you have the VHS/DVD combo player, those are garbage, always breaking down. I have the 2 separate players and hasn't had no trouble so far.
My DVD player is around 4 to 5 years old, my VHS player is about 2 to 3 years old. My old VHS player was pushing a good 10 years before it finally gave out.

Oh no, I was talking about my childhood player, so a regular VHS player. DVD discs weren't there yet. 10 years? Wow, if I believed in luck I would say- lucky bastardo! That's great.

All my stuff seems to last a long time. I use to have a small 13 inch tube TV, that was my mothers back in the day and was mine till I was up in my early teen years. It still worked when I sold, I then got a 20 inch flat screen. That 20 is a good 6 or 7 year old now and going without ever having 1 repair.
My PS2 (older fat model) is easily 10 years old, I say closer to 11 or 12 now. Was never brought to the repair shop, still works the best kind to this very day.
My old stereo system was a 60 watt Ventura, I was that young when I got that stereo I can't even remember the day I got it. I had that a good year or so longer then the old TV. I gave it to father to put down in the basement when I brought a 280 watt Sony system, which I still got now. The old radio was in the basement a few years before father sold it, and it still worked then.
My old N64 system, oh jeez that is old. I had that years before I even got the PS2. Still works perfect, I recently gave it to my younger brother in law.
Now you might think "Oh for stuff to last this guy so long, he must treat it like gold". Trust me, I do not. Every chance I get I blast the stereo's, and I means I turns them to 100% power to, with bass and other settings also at max level. The gaming systems I have never opened them up to clean them inside, beside a occasion CD cleaning disc that might be used once a year, that's it. VCR, I always got stuff piled on top of that. Sometimes it's the satellite receiver, sometimes the DVD player, right now the PS2 is on top of it. I never wipes off my PS2 or clean in behind my TV or radio, there is that my dust built up on that it's not funny.
Despite all the neglect, everything I has seemingly wants to last forever, nothing won't give out.
Even my old computer out in the kitchen, it's slow as hell but it works. It'll get you around the internet.

Re: Who here still owns VHS tapes?
@justin
That's awesome.
My grandparents have a TV that's older than me, I think. My father predicted that it won't last long because of the lousy, unknown brand. He was also pissed on my uncle for buying them such crap. Who knew.
The first anime (Granzort) I watched was the one my parents rented on a VHS tape. Of course I didn't know anything about it, to me it was just a cartoon, drawn in a very interesting style. That's another reason why I'm attached to VHS.

Re: Who here still owns VHS tapes?
I have plenty, can't see them as the VCR can't play anything and we only have it for the clock and to play N64.
That is why I plan to buy that VHS/BluRay player made by Panasonic. And also pass the surviving tapes into BluRay.

Seriously I wouldn't trust those combo players Tlaloc. We've had them out in the living room, they don't last. Your much better off getting both separate.
