Is it worth to get the Dragon Boxes?

Post by Tlaloc on Sat Feb 20, 2010 11:05 pm

I ask if is it worth to buy the Dragon Boxes after there have been plenty of DVD releases of DB. I was hoping they would place DBZ on BluRay, (yes, not Kai but Z, but we see it will be Kai Z).

I don't know if the quality would get much better with Bluray anyway. I was thinking about getting Kai on Bluray so I'll find out if I do I guess, but I heard the quality wasn't that much better.

Don't. Kai is sucking balls.
Animation isn't that improved and there isn't as much blood (in short, censorship)

Just get the Boxsets

Totally worth it, especially since you can put English voices with Japanese audio

I wish they could just undo the censoring. It couldn't be that hard, especially if they're going to sell it on Bluray and DVD.

Son Goku wrote:I don't know if the quality would get much better with Bluray anyway. I was thinking about getting Kai on Bluray so I'll find out if I do I guess, but I heard the quality wasn't that much better.

Thing is I no longer understand. I have heard some say that if something, a film or a show, has a resolution of 480 or lower, it should be on DVD not BluRay, as it would be seen terrible on BluRay and a waste. But I do see some old shows and films get BD release. Like I Love Lucy, the series will get released on BD.

And I also have the problem that because of this (the no old 480 or less shows on BD) we will never see somethings ported from DVD to BD, specially early releases. For example, I am frustraded that there are no plans to bring into BluRay the movies from the Jess Franco Collection; which got release in DVD on 2003; I didn't had a large income back them as I only recieved money from my folks; so I only manage to buy 2 DVDs, and one fo them is lost. Crying or Very sad Worse is that as many early DVD releases get to be out of print, they become hard to find brand new or in collector's edition (like The Pinky Violence Collection and the Lady Yakuza films).

Also back when The Simpsons on DVD came in, I didn't had money to buy the box sets, and much less get the ones of limited edition. And now they say they will release seasons 1 to 2 on BluRay and season 20 went directly to BR. Will seasons 3 to 19 be on BluRay? If so then I will forget of the DVDs and buy the BluRays.

I also hope series like ATHF get released on BD as I lost some discs.

And then there is the case of living in Mexico. For DVD's Mexico is Region 4. While I have a multiregional DVD player (they are easier to find legally in Mexico, but they don't play region 2 DVDs because of the PAL thing, but there are some that do play), it is not a problem to view region 1 DVDs, and not to mention that USA gets plenty of releases, specially in the anime department. But while you have right now a crisis in the anime market, in Mexico it is a joke as it almosts doesn't exist.

The only 2 companies that bring anime to DVD here are Zima Entertainment and Capital 8 (formely Towers Entertainment), but they don't do enough releases and Zima is just getting into this as they release box sets of old anime shows (but they only have the mexican spanish dub, no japanese audio which is something I would love as in USA they have both English and Japanese audio). Oh there is also Alter Films, but they only release series with japanese audio. Problem is they are just getting into DVD now that BluRay is here, and have no plans for BluRay releases. Though Zima released in BluRay Howl's Moving Castle. Oh and there is also Sony/Columbia/Tristar which release anime films like the Cowboy Bebop (Heaven's Door), Memories and some others. Didn't count them as they only release films, but their release quality surpasses that both of Alter, Zima & Capital 8 combined.

What I am getting to is that I would like to see all of the original Dragon Ball (everything, original aka classic, Z and GT) in BluRay with the original mexican spanish & japanese audio and remastered, but this is asking too much as in Mexico none has the single idea of how it is to remasterize.

On and also the original Evangelion series and movies the same way.

If the Dragon Boxes would be like BluRay versions then I would see them above already established DVD box sets, but really I don't know what they have to offer avobe what was already made, apart that they were special in Japan and in limited editions.
