Berserk
Aside from Dragon Ball, Berserk is my favorite Manga! Anyone on here know about it, or even the anime?
If not here’s a in-depth explanation of the manga in story form, I did it awhile ago...
It's a very dark series set in medieval times.
Berserk is a story about antihero named Gutts/ Gattsu, a felonious doomed child of fate, born from a cadaverous bedeviling womb that hung cursedly from a forlorn eerie tree. He was to die beneath his mother’s corpse. He is of this world not a part of fate’s plans, for he is dead, or rather was meant to die, and is not a factor to the thread of fate. Though, he survived, a couple had rescued the malnourished parentless boy. Berserk has a unique riveting captivating story-line, an epical journey starting with the mystique setting of the dark ages, speculative, in Europe. The beginning cycle shows a cold demeanor of a robustly tall man, with a giant as sword.
His presence vengeful with pure raw unadulterated ambience. His passion is a vindictive germinating mystery, culminating in his one good eye, manifested fury that only sees the fatality of death and those who are destined to cross his path, will be caught in its stifling hold.
To me, he is like the physical visualization of the grim reaper, materialized persona that is death, it is all that surrounds this Black swordsman named Gutts.
He was raised by a stern man named Gambino, in lived with a mercenary camp, where he was train to be a mercenary. There is no point or purpose to his life, nor his mere existence, it is just that he exists. Untouched by destiny and fate . Even as a small child his life was spared in the most brutal carnage of battles, it is still a puzzle just how he managed to survive each savage encounter with malicious killers.
He is between worlds, living and non. Throughout the story-line, Gutts has no ambitions, morality, ethics, or interested in the politics of war, he in fact, fights, a life in-between the balance of worlds. His real human qualities, are his emotions, and his indignation, to have anger and hatred, to show that he is human with passionate fury.
Still, he is a clueless raging monstrous brute, killing for money and seeking his meaning through battles... until, he met a gracefully beautiful man named Griffith. Griffith a charismatic cajoling leader of a mercenary band, he seemed destined for greatness. He alone lead the coalition to royalty and wanted Gutts to join him and his endeavors. The main focus at this point, is a transition of the past, a new plateau in Gutts’s discovery of himself. He challenged Griffith and lost. He joined the world, questioning his worth at the same time, effect a huge impact on everyone’s future outcome. To Live. Griffith seemed like a mysteriously enchanting beacon of the meaning and purpose to his existence. His guide, his leader, his friend, his inspiration and motivation. Also, connect with the Hawk Members, Judeau, Caska, Pippin, Rickert, Gaston and Corkus.
And that basically starts the story for Berserk. These two once friends become bitter enemies over the most infamous horrifying betrayal. I have more but I don’t want to bore with written works. The manga goes from a mercenary campaign to politics. Then later, that all slowly changes as supernatural elements present itself, surrounding Gutts and protagonist/villain Griffith. A shrewd man with the destiny of a conqueror. And Caska a member of Griffith’s band of the hawk, and later Gutt’s love interest, it’s more complicated then those words however.
Long story short, do ya know it?

Berserk just ROCKS!!! it just simply ROCKS! I love it! its really one very fierce Manga and it just simply ROCKS!
Gutts personality is for every respect and the thematic, point, story and overall feel of manga(and anime also IMO) is very positively strange and awesome.
It always inspires somewhat.
One masterpiece, no doubts. And you nicely described it one one post Kenanee

Re: Berserk
Thanks. I got to check the latest chapters, I usually I skip a few months because it takes forever for chapters to come out. So I got plenty to read now.
But yeah, my mouth dropped the first time I seen it. Something I discovered by accident. I knew some betrayal was going to happen from the intro. But when Griffith gave into the femto manifestation it was something I never seen before, only imagination. I still can't get over it. Freaking awesome, the manga is awesome it's starting to pick up again and finally it starting to come together.

Re: Berserk
Absolutely, and I hope I'll catch sometime to read it till the "end".
Btw is there gonna be end? cause I heard rumors that creator is gonna make it till he's alive...
I don't think that's a good idea AND I think that's a great idea - in the same time lol this sounds weird and like a joke but I really think so, I hope you get me

Yeah! Berserk rocks! My favorite character is Schierke because she is so cute, and reminds me of Carrie Fernandez from Castlevania 64.

No, same here. Sometimes I like the idea, but then I think, damn I don’t want to be fifty until this thing gets unraveled. It’s likely, I won’t lie, a career ender I suppose. He even gave examples of this in the Manga saying “We have stumbled upon a story, with no end in sight” An artist’s way of telling audience of future plans late in the manga actually to incorporate his feelings in his work. And to have reader’s mentally digest it’s going to be a long journey, a life journey, as he struggles, we struggle in a sense. Seeing it as he thinks of it. I don’t believe anything after the arc was predated in his mind.VEGETA_DTX wrote:Absolutely, and I hope I'll catch sometime to read it till the "end".

I have always speculated Miura was very engrossed in his work in the very beginning, very excited about his work. An artists urgent need to get out an idea, which is why the chapters came out a lot faster. However, after the Griffith/Femto arc. I believe after that it was a different story, his main focus was that arc and his vision shifted to what after and the chapters began to slow down. I believe he didn’t like the way his story was going and became disinterested in his own work, literally writing/drawing himself in a corner. That’s why it takes awhile, the ideas just aren’t there and he’s not as enthused, maybe even resistant. So he takes the time to reflect and how to progress the storyline to encourage a new view and renewed interest. At least that’s my observation as writer/artist. Plus, he has a life too, those in-depth drawings become a pain after awhile, I think that’s why he has a small team to help him draw now, doing inking and whatnot.

Re: Berserk
I don't know, I'd say he pretty much do everything the way he want, but who knows maybe in the mean time he thought like "oh damn I could do this this way, that would be way better!" you know many artists have problems with that when it occurs...But I am pretty much that sooner or later he will express major part of what he wanted through the upcoming chapters...I didn't read many times Manga and didn't to the "end" like I said when I say "end" I mean the last thing that has been released so far. I am actually pretty far from that "end" but anyway I like it and I liked the Anime very much...
Though Manga have its beauty, the anime have it also on its own way, but yeah it have some weakneses as well, but for me its nothing drastic.
I'd say it like this:
Bersekr Anime is less detailed especially in the terms of corpses, enviroment and such, but its straighter drawn than Manga in my personal opinion, I don't know is this "straighter" proper word, but I hope you got what I wanted to say. So basically I think the combination of anime and Manga would be awesome!
Btw the Game Berserk on PS2 is very very good even though I played just a little bit.
