Age of Empires III
So, after my downloaded version stopped working some years ago, I've been trying to get my hands on a real copy.
Finally, today, taking the money I got from my birthday, I got myself the Gold Edition (comes with the War Chiefs expansion)
There's a reason I rate this game a demi god of gaming history. I can't bring out the full awesomeness in my crappy laptop, but maybe I'll set it up to go to a friends house and try it in HD. It even freezes up if I use mortars. Can't be helped I guess
Seriously, even in the lowest setting...the game is beautiful. The shades are awesome (even thought I don't have them to very high, nor do I have the detail). AoE ushered in a new way to do RTS
And, of course, the gameplay is awesome. Tons of stuff to do, and then the hole "Home City" concept is also freacking great
I've only played about 2 hours, the tutorial and the first two chapters of the campaign. Then my PC decided to be gay and restarted cause of some damned updates for the system...FUCK!! I lost my will for today. Will continue tomorrow.
Also, I recommend this game to anyone with a good desktop. Seriously, it's awesome

The only thing i do not like in that game, is the period where the story is passed... the civilizations are to much advanced!! i personally prefer swords instead of the guns in that type of games... the first two age of empires were just awesome because of that...
But everything else, i agree with you... its an epic strategy game... and it have the portuguese civilization/empire

Well, I wont disagree with you
Age of Empires II was easily the best in the series. I have the Gold Edition for 2 as well...it's so awesome.
Although, the physics engine in III easily makes up for it. Plus, the time period has some good shit. Best part is in the War Chief's expansion, you get to fight in the Revolutionary War. Brits vs USA...it's a great chapter in world history.

Re: Age of Empires III
AOE I was one of the first games I played when I got my first computer. I really enjoyed playing that game. Although at first I didn't know how to save my progress and the other problem was the development of my village. XD (First couple of times I stayed on that caveman level and computer bastard would come with those elephants and slaughter everything in sight, it was horrible, horrible I tell ya! I thought the elephant was a king of the other village or somethin' and I wondered how to bring out mine.) But with a little help from the previous owner I figured out the basic concepts of the game and got really good over the time. That game, Kohan, Knights of Honor(epic game)and Battle Realms are my favorite strategies.
I haven't played AEO II and III, I don't know why I haven't played the second part yet, but I should definitely try it as soon as a buy a new computer (along with Heroes V and Europa Universalis III). I can't afford buying original games so I don't know when will I play AOE III. :/

Re: Age of Empires III
AoE III (the normal one, not the Gold Edition) is currently at 20 Euros in my local Fnac.
Of course, it may be harder to find in your case, as it may have been discontinued.
Also, I just had major rage over this game...I was at chapter 3 of the first Act, and I couldn't even move, as the battles at sea are killer on the computer. I suppose, since they improved the engine so much, the ships firing and being destroyed slow it up. Gave up and went to do some Skrimishes...
Neo, pus-me a nick de Lord Lol, e o nome do meu explorador e Capitão Fodão...que abuso...
Adoro os Caçadores...melhores unidades do jogo

There's no way I'll ever give 20 Euros for a computer game. I'll rather play what I can for almost nothing.

Re: Age of Empires III
Finished the warchiefs expansion
The first act is awesome. It tells the story of Nathan Black, Amelia's father. (Amelia is the woman from the final act of the original campaign)
So basically, you fight in the Revolutionary war. Epic battles like Valley Forge and Yorktown. Yorktown is so far my favorite scenario of AoE3. It's effing hard, but not broken. And the French do most of the dirty work for you
