Re: Baccano
Sorry I just posted this in a hurry!
My actual review
This anime is just all kinds of awesome
The story is set in the 30s, during the prohibition times. The story starts with a girl and an old man discussing "strange events" that happened in 1930 and 1931 (mostly, but also 1932)
It tells the story from basically 3 fronts. in 1930, 31 and 32.
the 1930 is told from the perspective of Firo Prochainezo, a guy that's soon to be enrolled in the camorra family (basically, a type of Italian mafia) called the Martillos. It deals with the basic stories and can be considered the main plot. It tells the mysterious origin of what the plot constantly refers to as immortals
the 1931 is told from the perspective of Jacuzzi Splot and Nice Holystone, who are a pair of criminals from Chicago. They board a train to New York, because they're trying to escape a mobster family, the Russos. During the travel, Ladd Russo of said mobster family from Chicago attempts to hijack the train for some personal psychotic fun as well as killing Splot. Several men in black suits attempt to do the same for their own personal goals. Jacuzzi ends up trying to save the train. Ladd eventually goes "fuck it" and starts having his fun. Meanwhile, other things are afoot as people start to mysteriously and brutally end up murdered (said people only from Russo's gang and the black men)
1932 tells the story of Eve Genoard, who's searching for her missing brother, Dallas. Dallas disappearance in this ties in with the events of 1930
All these events are told simultaneously, and we are given some sort of connection thanks to the two lovable and comical thieves, Issac and Miria
Overall, the entire anime is very awesome, basically told for just a story, no real deep to anything. The characters are told as what they are, human, so they don't need that much development. Yet, some of them are given a great deal of it. Especially Jacuzzi, Veno (see the anime to find out who this is) and Ennis
I'd give this a 8/10
The settings and ambient, as well as music gets a clean 10/10. Very fitting, jazz is the predominant, and the feel you get is just perfect and awesome (especially in dub form)
Animation is perfect, no real complaints (especially the regenerations of the immortals) 10/10
Overall, I'd give it a 9/10
Advice, get through the first 2 eps even if it's confusing. It seriously gets much easier as the plot moves forward
