It was...beautiful...just...fucking awesome
Take the old battle of little big horn...now make the Indians blue, epically tall beings with carbon fiber reinforced skeletons.
Had then a dash of "already done" in the form of a mineral the humans want cause it sells...and a dash of predictable love stories. Said like this, it doesn't seem much right? Yeah well...when you had the STUNNING concepts beyond the plot and the epic visuals that will make you literally :O and just breath heavy because of the awesome epicness...and that's avatar
It was...just so beautiful! The biology behind it was so...I dunno it was so intricate.
Like, the entire planet was connect with nerves that fired synapses MUCH faster than the human brain. Literally, the beings of the world could interface with the plants and animals...it wasn't mystical or spiritual bull crap...it was actual neural interface!! It was...just so awesome!! When one of the natives died, the plants would send out these sort of tentacle neurons that took ALL the info, all that being was, into the rest of the system. Basically, it's kinda like Buddhist theories of reincarnation, except the info stayed in the system. The Ni'va (the locals) called this network the Eywa...their god. In a way, they could speak to the ones that came before them and actually influence their surroundings. Of course, if you match this up in scale, a single being is nothing to the whole system. But, if the system looses to much it will defend itself...you see that at the end of the movie
So, the story is about a crippled marine that heads out to Pandora, the world. Upon arrival he finds that the companies are employing the marines to wage a territorial war for the planet, because of the rare mineral located there
Jake Sully, the marine, finds himself in the scientific part of the project, as researchers establish connections and observe and study the planet. Jake only got into the program because of his brother. he passed away, leaving behind his spot. The reason why not get another researcher is because of the avatars, bodies made from human and Ni'va (the natives) DNA's so the humans can interface with them and use their bodies as their own without any sort of medium.
Jake then finds himself divided between his duties as a marine...and the world he grows to love, including the chiefs daughter...now this part is of course very cliche...but for the love of god the visuals...you kinda go screw who loves who
The parts are played just right by the cast (the parts of course like dept, but the actors still play it right).
As for the visuals...just. There's these dragon like things that the Ni'va can interface with and can fly...you get STUNNING effects as the main character Jake takes his first flight. The floating mountains caused by vortex field ofn magnetic energy, connected to the rest of the plant by roots...the first view you get is...breathtaking...
The forest, and the animals and everything...the epic final aerial battle between the natives and the humans...the humans get their buts kicked!
Anyway, I give this movie a 8/10...I can't give it a full 10 because simply put...if only James Cameron had given us a plot to go with these visuals...we'd have the movie of the century right at the start of it...seriously, I'm so sad that James didn't give us a good plot...it would have made this a 10/10 movie...which lately is needed to remind producers, companies and directors why film making is an art to be respected.

Appears to be a vampire movie, only seen a few short advertisements but it looks like a good movie, hoping it'll be a Blade/Underworld type of thing, good action movie. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
Zombieland, I'd like to see that one to.

I haven't found the time to read the previous posts, but I will do it as soon as I can.

FOR OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN!!!!111

(So it was like this in my case- When I read the synopsis and I was like- This is really shallow and lame, not to mention shallow, have I mentioned shallow yet?
Seriously, the story looked like a recycled shit of a recycled shit. I mean: ex-marine-meats-princess?! I slapped my forehead(I really did).
So then I noticed a thread about it on one other forum I'm at and I checked it out. In the beginning everyone, except one, were giving it positive critics. But they were all focused on effects and how great they were. The rare comments about the story stated that it was "mediocre" etc. So I said this is one of those movies where ppl go to cinemas just to say:"Oohh!Aaahhh! The colors! The colors!" And I'm usually not interested in such movies. Another guy responded when I brought up the synopsis and said:"That's the synopsis? That sounds like Pocahontas." XD
And then others who watched it stated that the movie really had stolen some stuff from other movies\anime and mentioned some of the titles.
Anyway to cut things short- I went to watch it, because of the new technology implemented in it. I don't want to support Hollywood in it's production of the generic scripts, but I went anyway so I won't be only guessing about it.)
Visually it's a 10. It really is a sight for the sore eyes. My predictions were true and the story sucked big time, the script was generic and it's really sad\shameful that such a movie doesn't have a better one. I can't say that I was bored and I have no regrets when it comes to the money I gave. I just simply tried to ignore all of the cliché, predictable scenes throughout the movie. The movie is definitely great for the older kids, I think they will really enjoy it.
I liked the "bond" idea. I have no complaints about the acting. The music was solid.

Meh, for some reason, the cliche works with it, so I don't complain. Would still like a better story though.

^ I'm just being objective. A harsh thing would be to say that this movie is "the worst piece of shit in the world of the seventh art", like some of the critics I've read. I can't agree with such critics either, so maybe I'll be a bit generous but I'll give this movie a 6.5/10.

Hehe, it hasn't opened a path for anything. It will go down in history as the first movie that used new 3D technology and that's all. And it could be so much more...pity. A professional movie critic can't give it more then 6 or 7/10 so I reckon I'll put myself in the middle.

Ningen...harsh (referring to the pic, not the modding)
I already said there was huge cliches in it...I still like it though.
It's such a shame. They call this a "Epic Film" based only on the money and visuals. The world is awesome too though. But still...and epic film (there's actually a genre for this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_film ) is so much more
Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, dare I say Harry Potter (more the books) etc are epic films...this is not.

From the start of that scene, I predicted everything happening with the eyes opening and it cutting to the credits, lol. Still and awesome movie, though.

Re: Avatar by James Cameron
About your review. I wouldn't say the movie didn't have a plot. It just didn't have an very original one when it comes down to the basics. It was just that it was your standardized selfish guy goes good and must make the decision between of sticking to his orders given by the villains or with his true friends...and also the consequences of waiting until it's almost too late to let his friends know who he's with.
I've seen it so many times. The Fast and the Furious is one that I can name off the top of my head. Still, though - it didn't make the movie bad or less-than-average, just a little predictable. I still loved it, though because of the visuals and scientific concept introduced.
I mean image if you can make another avatar where you can transfer your being to, whether permanently or not. If anything happened to your real body (like getting old), you could just make yourself another young body and start over. You could theoretically live forever if you could transfer over permanently.

Re: Avatar by James Cameron
I saw the movie, first off the visual imagery was flawless. It was stunning, but I'll review it. First off the movie it self was horrible, a boredom fest. Leading me to my next theory, as soon as more movies use the visual technology Avatar used, more people will agree Avatar is overrated.
First off Avatars itself, was a cool concept. However they could have done so much more, to make it an awesome plot AND good visuals. The Government needed this material, due to the failing economy on earth. The main character is a cripple, but can walk in his Avatar. That there is impressive, first off his storyline is not original. He started as... a trigger happy idiot, who after meeting the Na' VI. So he's basically like screw the country, and my legs, let me help these blue people.
The FRICK!? The blue people are insane, there risking their lives to defend their form of the internet, and there religious fanatics. Eowa, sounds like a Star Wars name. The NAVI were selfish people, who wanted there tree's over the lives of the humans. So the humans should have won, anyway they lost. The General was a hero ,saving his people. The plot was EXTREMLY boring, I fell asleep in certain parts. The first 25 to 30 minutes were iffy, it didn't good till the Human vs Na'Vi war started.
Also they killed of that hot chick, DANG IT! FAN SERVICE! The break out after they destroyed the first tree, was one of my favorite parts in the movie.

But basically, these "marines" were not part officially of any military; they were hired muscle for a corporation. So they were mercenaries.
Also, Avatar is now the higest grossing movie of all times.

There are no more original movies.... Everything is based on something already done!! Sci-fi genre already explored everything.. Avatar story is not new, but the way it was presented to us, viewers, was just epic!!
Its a very good movie, with awesome action, cool characters, a good story(overused, but what is good, stays good..lol), and a beautifull atmosphere!!! Its a good work...
