Batman (1989) vs The Dark Knight (2008)

It's time for a film VS topic!

Post reasons why you think one film is better than the other.

For me, I'm picking Batman (1989) here are my reasons;

- Gotham City looked like Gotham City in 'Batman' and not Chicago like TDK.
- You can hear what Batman is saying in 'Batman', unlike TDK.
- I loved the plot of the 89 movie better, it was more Joker-ish.
- Everyone in TDK has to say a fekkin' monologue whenever they speak.
- The 89 film had the yellow oval on Batman's outfit.
- The 89 Batmobile >>>>> the tank and the weird looking, questionable bike in TDK.
- The 89 film had Bob the goon. Bob is awesome!!!
- Kim Basinger is prettier than Maggie Gylenhall.
- Danny Elfman's score >>>>>>> the... guy who did the score for the Dark Knight's score.
- Batman's entrance in the 89 film was better.

Overall = 'Batman' just felt more like a comic book movie. TDK doesn't feel like a comic book movie at all. It's just a hyper realistic, crime drama, it's not Batman! And TDK's fanboys are annoying as hell...

Also, Chu, don't post in here to just say that you think they both suck because they are both adaptions please. Thank you!

Yes the Joker in TDK was awesome. Though I did like Batman as well, I'm willing to give both a even draw.

Do you even watch the movies, or just say they suck because they are adaptions.

Sure, movies may vary from the original, hell, sometimes movies may be nothing like the manga's or comics. But that is not reason enough to say they suck.

I give adaptions a chance and go watch them! HP 1 was the best adaption and proboably one of the few I even like

Joker isn't the Joker from the comics! CB Joker has more gadgets he dosen't use bsombs all the time! His signature weapon is a flower that shots various acids and gases.
That's like Goku without Kamehameha!

Batman asks why Joker does things and seems concerned about his enemis goals? The real Batman hardly has any emotions in this stage of his life except for very few and usually grunts or makes gestures!

Bruce is not scarred to go out in the Day and dosen't act retarded like going to a hospital knowinh Joker will blow one up! Batman goes out in the day if something extreme is happening!

Superman Returns sucks though...a mountain...yeah...nice job there screen writer...

X-Men trilogy...NOTHING LIKE THE COMICS!! Especially the Phoenix Force and...Iceman...I can't get over that...anyway, it was a good movie. They changed the stuff, but it was still a GOOD MOVIE!!

DBE WAS A BAD MOVIE!! You don't even NEED to go into adaption...IT WAS A BAD MOOOOOVIE!!!!

I didn't join because DBE was different, as follish as the changes was, I was willing to give it a try. I joined because DBE was merely a bad movie. Crap effects, unimpressive acting, etc. Same with Mortal Combat 2, weird story, sort fights, etc.

Mortal Combat, Transformers, Batman, The Dark Knight, I enjoyed all these movies.

Mortal Combat was interesting with lots of action and great fighting. Transformers 1 had a nice story combined with good special effects, part 2 was more of a action comedy and offered lots of laughs. Batman and TDK where both interesting movies, though Joker played a huge role of saving TDK.

Do any of these movies match there source, I highly doubt it. But despite the changes, they are good movies.

Edit: Like Lol said, the X Men movies. Again doesn't match the source, but the movies themselves are awesome.

I'll be the first to admit...Joker from TDK DOES NOT EVEN REMOTELY RESEMBLE the Joker from the comics. Well, he does in personality...both bat shit crazy off the walls that is, but that's about it.

But, Joker from TDK...is Epic...look past he isn't "your" Joker, and you will see he is EPIC!!

I'm no trying to be inconsiderate? If I make an adaptio I'll make changes? Hmm let's make Joker able to cheat death and give him his signature weapons. He can use money to get his clown henchmen later and use Jokerg as bombs on the money for a great crime spree!

Again you expect way to much of a movie.

When I heard about DBE, I was pissed at all the stupid changes that was being made. HOWEVER, I would of accepted it HAD THE MOVIE ITSELF OF BEEN GOOD. It was not though, it turned out to be a cheap ass movie with actors who needed more training then they had, and better effects.

If DBE was properly made, it could have been a good action/comedy like Transformers 2, sadly it is not.

However, it would seem me and Lol have far different views then you Chu. If we go to judge a movie, we judge the movie in itself, not it's relation to the source material.

You've got to open your mind Chu, base movies on what they are, not what they came from.

I could sit here and complain about the Resistant Evil movies for the same reason as you Chu, but I'm not.

Now I can understand your a big fan of the comics and manga's you read, and you want a movie that can deliver to your high expectations. However, the chance of getting true adaptions is I must slim. You can say a lot of these movies suck, but for the reason your using to say so, little to no one would take you seriously.

If I go on a DC website you know how many people support my view............


I judge a movie by it's relatio nto the source material! Why base it off the source material if it's gonna be totally different? TDK could have been about a man who creates a costume and decides to go after the man who ruiend his life a crime-boss who's a former clown? He also injures a friend and he learns the clown has a poison which makes others insane and he has to cure everyone and save the world with his friend and part time butler!?

Batman '89 is the reason I've been a bat-fan since before I can remember. It's the reason my first word ever spoken was Batman. TDK is the reason I'm still really into all-things Batman, like the game, the animated series, and the comic books.

But yeah, about Bale's bat-voice; I think he should have used the voice he used in Batman Begins you can actually understand him...but instead he used his 'yelling/interrogation' voice the entire movie so we got nearly-unintelligible phrases like "You'll pee in a pattered shell forever!"

As for adaptations? Well, let's just say I don't mind if it's 'different' if it's really good, especially when there's been more writers and interpretations for the comic-book version of Batman than most comic-book characters.

I am all the way for Burton's Batman films. They really captured Gotham City.

Nolan just made it look like another city and TDK is just another police-crime drama.

Overall, I thought the actual story of TDK was better and a lot more exciting than Batman Begins, but I thought Batman Begins' atmosphere - like the way the city looked, the brown filter, etc. was better and closer to the comics than the Dark Knight.

My favorite Batmobile is still the one from the Burton movies though.

I judge adaptions by how good they adapt.

Its the same to me... for example X-MEN... I never saw the cartoons (maybe 1 or 2 episodes..lol), but after seeing the movies i got interest in te story and in the animation episodes (but not the comics... i hate read...lol). Those movies can be a good thing (if well done), and can "promote" the source material.

If DBE had the same epicness as the TDK movie i would never joined the protest... what made me do that, is the fact that Hollywood turn DB into a mockery... because when you put hannah montana thematics into a DB movie or in a sci-fi (my favourite genre) movies, it only shows how fucking stupid the movie industry have become!!! Its like turning a metal band into a pop one... and that would make me crazy

Im also in favour for faithfull adaptations... BUT if the movie is good i do not care if they change SOME THINGS (ok, i would get a little pissed, but i would never joined the protest).

My way of thinking is: TDK would be a 9 to 10 stars movie if it was faithfull... so i rate it at 7 to 8 stars because althought not trully faithfull it still a VERY GOOD movie

Yes, if it had been a good movie I would of liked it. Would of still been terrible as a adoption, but I would have liked it as a movie by itself.

If they took out Yamcha/Tien(Nightwing)
If they took out Buu(Joker)
Took out Freiza(Harvey)

And made Cell suck(Scarecrow!)

It would be a terrible adaptation.... but perhaps a good movie!! I love movies... im not going to say that a movie sucks, because its not faithfull to the source...lol... its not fair!! its the same thing i draw a picture about SSJ5 Goku (and there are some awesome drawings) and you say it suck only because that shit is not cannon

Vegeta DTX is against all kinds of adaptations (and you said that you are against only to non faithfull adaptations)... im against bad movies!! Those are two different things but with the same goal... DESTROY DBE Yes, because DBE is a bad movie and adaptation!!

If they did THAT, of course. But, keep in mind, not only is the woman dead (so Rachel may be introduced). As for Harvey...well, he was killed off, but you never know. It may be alive somehow.

Point is, the TDK isn't as bad as DBE as an adaptation...you're thinking of Wolverine Origins there, after what they did to Deadpool (FUCK IS THAT SHIT!?), and even then, they seem to be willing to correct it. (they better)

DBE is really bad as both a movie and an adaptation

TDK is good as a movie and more or less not bad as an adaption.
