Nikku plays Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe!
Here’s a mini review for you!
Well, I found a copy on Amazon.co.uk, brand new and sealed for £15.16!! In a surprise twist, the copy I got was the Kollectors Tin! Very happy about that, they didn’t even say it was the tin version! I very nearly bought a preowned normal version for £24.99. I’m glad I saw MK Unchained and SFIV when I did, or else I’d not have gotten the tin version of this game.
Pros;
- I like the way its gone back to a more 2D approach.
- Nice character selection.
- The story Mode had great cutscenes.
- The graphics (especially close ups of the characters) were fantastic.
- Several of the old classic MK special moves make a welcome return.
Cons;
- The Kombo Challenges are literally impossible. Way too hard.
- No Johnny Cage or Poison Ivy, but that’s just a little nitpick.
- Both Story Modes completed in under 2 hours.
- Cheap CPU at times.
- Almost nothing to do, as with the rest of the PS3 games I own.
- The endings are just a still picture with narrated text and are incredibly dull, boring and uninspired.
- The character designs for the MK characters are nowhere near as good as the older ones.
- The main theme plays an awful lot and I didn’t hear a whole lot of different tracks.
Overall;
This is definitely a step in the right direction towards bringing the gameplay back to the classic 2D MK style. I thought it worked well. Gone are the style changing fights featured in the previous MK games. Those Kombo challenges are way too hard and impossible for me to do, so it’s very crappy knowing that I’ll never get anyone of those 22 trophies. The CPU was very cheap at times, blocking all my moves and then even using Rage Mode.
Did I enjoy it more than Street Fighter IV?
Hmmm, well the characters have more moves than the SFIV characters. Both games share combos/combo challenges and stuff that I’ll never be able to do. Both had great graphics. Ironically, both games even seem to have only 2 songs that I like! I did like the few very easy to get trophies that this game had to offer. And hey, at least Dark Kahn wasn’t as relentlessly cheap and lame as SFIV’s Seth. He had a more intimidating name too. Also, this game had readable text unlike SFIV where the text was so blurry and small that I couldn’t read a word of it. The one thing SFIV had over MK vs DC was a frikkin’ gorgeous Chun-Li, however, if this game had Frost and/or Poison Ivy, it probably would have tied with SHIV in the “Which game has the better looking girl/s?” category. So I’m not really sure which one I liked better, but I’m just gonna go ahead and say this game.
Overall rating – 7/10

I loved the game to be honest.
I played through it in about one night. It's a one time game, not fun again. I loved playing as Flash he was my best fighter in this game.
Then GL, Joker, and Lex were pretty cool.
