IRC Channel

Guys, guys guys.

I have a suggestion.

Which is to establish an IRC channel for the forum

I know we have a chat already, but an IRC is always better in terms of functionality, plus requires much less to actually use.


I'll include a pool for the sake of it, but it isn't needed

What exactly is IRC, if you don't mind my asking.

An active channel chat.

To actually created a registered channel and maintain it isn't as easy as it sounds

I guess I can keep reading, but this shit is hard and I sure as hell hope someone that understands this shit helps me out

Lol, if somebodies computer never failed them (after about 5 years or so) at one point in their life I would ask them what God(s) they prayed to. And anybody here who does not know the horror of exams is either incredibly lucky or superhuman (don't even think about many jokes referring to the RP)

I don't know if we need a bot but it could be useful, seeing as I still need to assign the OP status to the mods from here

Alright I figured I'd post this in case some users aren't familiar with IRC

mibbit is a very good online chart room. However, if you want, you can download mIRC here:

mIRC is basically the standard for the Internet Relay Chat system

Now, how this works is that you have TONS of servers, each server having channels within them

One can make a temp channel just from logging onto one that doesn't exists, and from there, register it and thus make a permanent one. It's what I ended up doing.


Now, after you've opened the mibbit link, there's the "launch mibbit webchat" to the left. Obviously open it.

Now, you've arrived at a page that asks you a few things. Now, first off, there's the serve. The server the channel is hosted on is mibbits.
For those that will be downloading mIRC, the address you need to input is irc.mibbit.net

After that, choose whatever nick you want. If you want to make that nick permanent, I'll tell you how within the chat, provided I'm there.

Then just type in our channel. It's "#dblamp"

You should arrive at the channel immediately

It's as easy as that

So if I understood well, you go to http://www.mibbit.com/ then click on "launch mibbit webchat", then click on "server" and then enter "irc.mibbit.net" and then after that I enter my nickname in the nick field and inside the channel field I enter "#dblamp".

Did I miss something? I've just entered and currently its empty chatroom, but is that because I failed to enter it or there's currently no one there

Guys, just thought I'd post here again and say that the IRC is functioning fine and dandy, and that you can use it at ANYTIME you need instead of that bothersome chatbox

Basically, I repeat, use mibbit for the IRC provider, the server is Mibbit, and the channel is called #dblamp

I am now completely organized in the IRC. I can keep control of it easily while there.

The only thing I'm still thinking of doing is adding a bot to give auto voice. But that's a bad idea because it compromises security.

But SERIOUSLY use the chat. Me, Chu and Jay mostly use it for the RP but its open for anyone that wants it.

And if you want auto op in the channel (basically a mod) here's a quick guide on how to register your nick on the mibbit server. Once you do that, and I give you op status in the channel, it'll always come on when you log in.

Once you go onto irc, in the main window, type:

/ns register password (pick something easy to remember) your_email

You should then receive an email in the address you provided. It should have a code. Take that code and type

/ns confirm confirmation_code

And that should do it. You'll have to type the password in the main window every time. For that, the command is

/msg nickserv identify your_password

In the interest of fairness, I'm only giving op to mods that are already one here in the forum. But anyone else gets halfop
