I just completed DMC2 (the Lucia disc) on Lucia Must Die difficulty! I've been replaying all the DMC games, most probably because of that feckin' reboot. The last time I had gone on the Lucia disc was November 2004(!!) Haha, so I just did the Must Die difficulty in a few hours today. It really is a short game... but it wasn't easy though; that awful tri-head boss near the end of the game is so overpowered its untrue.

I heard DMC 2 was the worst of the franchise for similar reasons that the new one is pulling (changing Dante's character among other things).

Hehe, DMC2 will look like the second coming of Christ when DmC hits the store shelves! But it did do a few things wrong;

- Dante is almost always quiet and stoic and doesn't taunt anyone (not in cutscenes and gameplay).
- Its almost impossible to get an S rank on any mission (I managed an S rank on mission 13 with Lucia last night though!)
- The stylish ranking during gameplay is almost impossible to get up to an S ranking. And its RANDOM. @___@
- 2 discs for both characters wasn't needed. The game is so short that I believe they did 2 discs to try and trick people into thinking it was longer.
- Weapon variety; its done well with the guns, but the swords... Dante has 3 swords and they all play exactly the same. One apparently has longer reach but less power and the other has shorter reach but more power but still... Lucia only has two melee weapons and they are exactly the same.
- The amount of moves was reduced from the first game.
- The extremely poorly done underwater segments in Lucia's scenario. And they go on forever, you think you're done then BOOM (or SPLASH)! Back in the pool! The movement is so slow and unresponive and you get one weapon to use, a bowgun. The underwater boss on Lucia Must Die had me shouting at my TV again...

But it did do some things right though;

- Dante's look is my personal favorite.
- The customizable Devil Trigger was great, apart from the 3 elements which just add a graphical effect to your swords.
- Trish is an unlockable character! She kicks serious demon arse!
- Level design (such as the abandoned city) is good.
- Trish, Dante and Lucia all play differently.
- Lots of unlockable costumes including DMC1 Dante.

So yeah, it definitely does many things wrong, but I still like it. Funny story actually, Capcom gave the development rights of DMC2 to another team (not the same team that did DMC1) and this team was developing their own game at the time. Because the higher ups at Capcom made them rush DMC2, they had to alter their existing in-development game into DMC2! Thats why it feels so different from the other titles in the series and why it is so despised.
