No one is saying who wins or who looses. We are just assuming what would happen if L and the other two where in the Watchmen universe. That is all.
Of course L would be useful. In regards to the movie alone, he would crack the case in half the time, and with proper protection (say the Silk Specter, Night Owl and Rorschach) he would catch Ozymandias.
