Re: Avatar by James Cameron
Sylar wrote:I saw the movie, first off the visual imagery was flawless. It was stunning, but I'll review it. First off the movie it self was horrible, a boredom fest. Leading me to my next theory, as soon as more movies use the visual technology Avatar used, more people will agree Avatar is overrated.
When something starts a new way of doing stuff, it doesn't become overrated. Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dragon Ball, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, etc are examples of animes that had such influence on the medium they'll never be considered overrated even if their plots get used again and done better
DB in particular started most of the shounen cliches you see today.
Another example is the way Buffy does vampires. Never it will be considered cliche because it started it
First off Avatars itself, was a cool concept. However they could have done so much more, to make it an awesome plot AND good visuals. The Government needed this material, due to the failing economy on earth. The main character is a cripple, but can walk in his Avatar. That there is impressive, first off his storyline is not original. He started as... a trigger happy idiot, who after meeting the Na' VI. So he's basically like screw the country, and my legs, let me help these blue people.
He didn't go screw it over night. He spent about a month doing that stuff. Sure, each and every interaction wasn't shown, but I figure 1 month is enough to help you look at things a different way. Also, Earth didn't need the mineral because it was in crises, it just did. So much so the marines weren't army, just hired mercs. There was a private company doing the shit, not any government.
You can say it's a boring plot, but you can't say it wasn't done right
The FRICK!? The blue people are insane, there risking their lives to defend their form of the internet, and there religious fanatics. Eowa, sounds like a Star Wars name. The NAVI were selfish people, who wanted there tree's over the lives of the humans. So the humans should have won, anyway they lost. The General was a hero ,saving his people. The plot was EXTREMLY boring, I fell asleep in certain parts. The first 25 to 30 minutes were iffy, it didn't good till the Human vs Na'Vi war started.
Religious fanatics catches my eye coming from you. Hypocrisy much? Also, wrong seeing as there was no religion. The way they did things was just a lack of science. The stuff they believed in (they fact they went back to their own world) was in a sense reality, as their entire personalty and thoughts were just inputed into the main system
You seriously misinterpret the way the Na'vy think, or the entire concept being the planet's linked state. And seriously, I'd like to see if suddenly people went in and started to destroy your house if you wouldn't protect your house over the
Also they killed of that hot chick, DANG IT! FAN SERVICE! The break out after they destroyed the first tree, was one of my favorite parts in the movie.

Re: Avatar by James Cameron
what i like it most, is the fact that they created an entire new ecosystem.. and its totally alien to humans, because on Earth the living beings are not connected in the same way, if we compare to the Avatar world! The plants and the animals are awesome (and im not refering to the special effects)... thats one of the things that make that movie great!!! And the scene where humans destroyed the Avatar trees, and saying that are just trees, have an incredible message in there!!
Avatar is not only a movie with good special effects... its have a lot of work in there (and again im not talking about CGI)!

It's a great movie for taking your kids to see it, and for the adults that prefer visual rather than the content.

The story works, it's really that simple
Not the best, cliche as fuck, but it works so there should really be no complaint, unless you're like me and wanted this movie to be a perfect 10/10 so bad that the story annoys you to living hell that is

Avatar have content...lol!! Like i said, the sci-fi genre already presented almost everything, so something new is almost impossible... the way the movie was presented to us is the only thing new, that the directors may do!!
The world in Avatar is reach in biodiversity and environment details.. there are few movies that can achieve that.. so it have content, the story is beautifull, it have a good message (overused, but again, the way that was presented says everything), and the characters are interesting... Movies without content are the "sci-fi originals" or DBE, and sayng that Avatar is like those ones, is insane...LOL
For me, that movie is great (im studying Ecology, maybe thats because of it..lol), ... and movies with great CGI, do not means it lacks content... Matrix or the lord of the rings are the prove!

^ I haven't said that it doesn't have content. That would be retarded. I just said that the way content is presented (visual) is much better than the actual content.
The movie sucks. Professional critics buried it.
But Hollywood knows how to earn cash, can't say nothing about that...

With that i agree
Plus the visual part is not only CGI... it was needed an incredible imagination to create a world like that...
Professional critics buried it?? The movie already won awards... and most of the critics were positive!!

Well not exactly "incredible". Not to mention that a lot of motives, like the floating mountains, were stolen. I wasn't that much impressed with the world. But I did liked the bound thing.4Neodemon wrote:ningen wrote:^ I haven't said that it doesn't have content. That would be retarded. What awards? It's just like the pic I posted on the first page with Cameron ending up with a bunch of Oscars. Unless it won some actual respectable awards, I don't care. The most of the critics that I respect and that actually know something about the seventh art buried it.
My point is that this movie could have go down in history as something great, both visually and by content. But it will go down only as the expensive movie which implemented never before seen technology in the film making and a movie that earned a lot of cash for the studio.

Re: Avatar by James Cameron
Best award in the USA maybe...and if a movie like that won such award that says a lot about its value...
Look, the movie was a simple (but expensive) copy/pasta project designed to earn cash by drawing people in by its pretty colors and new 3D technology. Every respectable critic or an artist in cinematography knowes that the only award this movie can win is the award for special effects...that's the only one.

Re: Avatar by James Cameron
Was not Avatar based on a book?? You mean that the guy who wrote it stole fragments from other stories like the flying montains?? I did not knew that... :S
Anyway, i never saw a movie with a world like that... thats why i get impressed (not about the CGI, but the ecosystem itself)!
Plus, i know the movie used a lot of "inspiration" from other movies...lol... but i do not think that is a bad thing... its like that movie "Doomsday (2008)"... its an awesome action film that used elements from various movies, and put all together, making it one of the best action flicks i ever saw... Sometimes it work..
