The Watchmen movie thread
I decided to see Watchmen on its very first day instead of waiting for discount Wednsday to see it and let me tell you, it simply is one of the best representations in the art of film making.
Not sure if I would give it a perfect score since of course there are somethings missing and some altered; but somethings had to be gone in order to fit time and content, but of course without altering the spirit, meaning and message, now that is doing an adaptation, not a deformation.
Spoilers ahead:
OK of course there is no squid, instead Adrian uses something that was the thing that gave Dr. Manhattan is powers, to destroy not only New York but other cities. I do miss what everyone believes in the comic that it is an invasion, but this does suit on why Dr. Manhattan leaves Earth. Also some scenes from the trailer are gone, maybe for the extras on DVD or for some extended version they plan for theaters. And still Manhattan kills Rorschach.
Ending spoliers.
I said that I am still not sure to give in a perfect score, but this film is a masterpiece, this is how to make a movie adaption unlike other things we know they will be released. Really, a masterpiece of film.
And of course in other places... they complain that Rorschach wasn't in high school nor that he gets the "it" girl...

That the guy wanted the Watchmen film to be "dumbed down" for the general public like Wong says he did for DBE.

Re: The Watchmen movie thread
wikipedia wrote:The negative reviews generally cite the film's much-advertised "reverence" to the source material, as statically replicating – rather than creatively interpreting – Alan Moore's graphic novel. "Watchmen is a bore...It sinks under the weight of its reverence for the original," writes Philip Kennicott of the Washington Post.[131] Devin Gordon wrote for Newsweek, "That's the trouble with loyalty. Too little, and you alienate your core fans. Too much, and you lose everyone – and everything – else."[132] Owen Gleiberman's Entertainment Weekly review reads, "[Snyder] treats each image with the same stuffy hermetic reverence. He doesn't move the camera or let the scenes breathe. He crams the film with bits and pieces, trapping his actors like bugs wriggling in the frame."[133] "[Snyder] never pause[s] to develop a vision of his own. The result is oddly hollow and disjointed; the actors moving stiffly from one overdetermined tableau to another," says Noah Berlatsky of the Chicago Reader.[134] David Edelstein of New York Magazine agrees: "They’ve made the most reverent adaptation of a graphic novel ever. But this kind of reverence kills what it seeks to preserve. The movie is embalmed."[135] Says The Wall Street Journal, "Watching 'Watchmen' is the spiritual equivalent of being whacked on the skull for 163 minutes. The reverence is inert, the violence noxious, the mythology murky, the tone grandiose, the texture glutinous."[136] The trade magazines Variety and The Hollywood Reporter were even less taken with the film. Variety's Justin Chang commented that, "The movie is ultimately undone by its own reverence; there's simply no room for these characters and stories to breathe of their own accord, and even the most fastidiously replicated scenes can feel glib and truncated,"[137] and Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter writing, "The real disappointment is that the film does not transport an audience to another world, as 300 did. Nor does the third-rate Chandler-esque narration by Rorschach help...Looks like we have the first real flop of 2009."
I just don't get it. The movie looks awesome, and i never read watchmen in my life. But if it's faithful, and has very good special effects by the way, why bitch.
People say that the way he stayed faithful was the films undoing, but i much rather see something faithful, than something adapted simply because it didn't fit into what society consideres "entertainement". More so the last statement.
If they think this is bad, wait until DBE...oh wait, since DBE did rape the hell out of the source material, oh wait sorry, "creatively interpreted" the source material, then it's not bad right. Fuck these idiots. I personally think that the movie is good (the watchmen film, not DBE).
Of course there is always the moment when you stick so much with the story, you give no room for your actors to move, like they said. But i find that didn't happen here. They seemed to know what they got into, as 300 was also incredibly faithful to the actual story of King Leonidas.
I just hope Zack Snyder doesn't get to much BS for this great film. It's not fair thats guys like James Wong get away with pure brand exploitation to make, as DTX says, pop culture Bullshit, while guys like him, that keep to what the story means, get this kind of reaction.
Most of the bastards that gave this film negative reviews, and those that said it was crap, probably never knew the original. I find this epic Bullshit...rant over.

Wait, that is from Wikipedia????
Stupid Wikipedia, they don't let you place a critiscism section in the DBE page, but yes in the Watchmen film page!
Heck, the movie is not way over faithful as (spoiler) there is no squid at the end! And yet they say this is the problem!

Re: The Watchmen movie thread
It's diferent. Watchmen has already made it's debut. This is a rection section. There are good reviews, but apparently more bad than good.
When DBE dubuts in Japan, they will had one to the DBE page as well.
What I wanted to had to the DBE page was a criticism section, even before the film release.

Re: The Watchmen movie thread
I just saw watchmen and it was great! It was mostly faithful, sure a few things were changed or removed, but it still was a great movie! it CAPTURED the film, which is more than DBE can ever hope to do...
but yeah I loved it. Better than I thought it'd be

Re: The Watchmen movie thread
hah I was so nervous going to see the watchmen. I was super worried they were gonna show a DBE trailer and totally ruin my time. I has holding my breath each time a trailer started, then let out a sigh of releif as soon as I knew it was for some other movie ^_^ luckily they never showed a DBE trailer. I was scared tehy would, and I would stand up and start yelling, and then my brothers would totally kill me/make me go home for doing that

Re: The Watchmen movie thread
lol, the voice for rorschack was David Hayter (the voice of solid snake) which was actually kinda weird cuz when he had his mask off the lip syncing was perfect, you really couldnt tell at all.Monkey D. Luffy wrote:did anyone else think that the actor for Rorcharch can pull off the role of Solid Snake if they mad an MGS movie?
i guess a lot of people didnt like it cuz they cant appreciate art for shit which includes good stories. also if u didnt read it u definitely cant have the same appreciation for it as someone who did. i think it was really good, like indefinitely awesome, but i think they left out a little too much, it was a long movie, but i didnt even feel it, i did fall doze a little at the end, woke up right after "JUST DO IT!" which sucked, i wanted to see that, n i was told he did it perfectly. neways, i think if they remake it or add more to it for the dvd (the stuff they shouldnt have left out) then it could be perfect. they also added some stuff to shorten it, like how doc manhatten could show lori what he "saw" which is complete bullshit n you know why if u read it.
whats crazy is all the actors looked like the characters. they all also did an amazing job playing their characters. whats funny too is that all the characters looked like some other famous actor, lucy lawless look alike, martin short look alike, forgot who i thought rorschack looked like.
i have more to say but ill have to wait until its coherently thought out
