Dragon Ball Z Kai Report

Alright So I've seen the first four episodes of Dragonball Z Kai and here is my initial feed back on the series.

First a grading of the voice actors.

Narrator: Extremely similar to the narrator of Dragonball, however the voice lacks the menace needed for the more dangerous situation that is Dragon Ball Z, further the famous "Next Time on Dragon Ball Z!" Is gone.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Grade: C

Bulma: Actually very similar to the original bulma, though there is also now a greater similarity with the Bulma in DBZ abridged, so close enough for government work.
Grade: -A

Gohan: Actually sounds decent, though I do prefer the old Gohan voice, (probably out of familiarity, but passable.
Grade: -B

Now for the music, Some of it is similar to what was in the orignal Dragonbal Z but there have been some changes, some for the better some for the worse.
Grade: B
And on a side note, the music for when Raditz confronted Piccolo was absolute perfection, you could feel the very menace Raditz brought.

Finally the Action, The bloody censorship laws take out ALOT of the scenes, for example we don't actually see the special beam cannon pierce fully through Raditz and Goku, and the wound that should be bleeding looks more purple then anything else. Further these laws made it so we can't see some of the blows, including showing Raditz whack Gohan.
Grade: D

So this show averages about a -B this grade may change as more shows are seen.

what laws are you talking about? the new Hellsing OVAS are full of blood... why not in DB Kai?

Well there's got to be something, seeing as how those scenes are no longer being scene, and Bardock was a lot less bloody (his stand against Frieza was the opening scene). Perhaps it's because it's on Nicktoons...

Oh and they've already made an error, in episode 3 Piccolo clearly calls his attack the Special Beam Cannon, but in the next episode during a flash back they use the japanese name.

that is nothing if we compare it to the portuguese dub...lol
i still remember when Goku called his nimbus... in the portuguese dub sometimes he called it "magic cloud", and other times "blue cloud"...LOL... its yellow... not blue...WTF...lol.. oh, and in Brolly movies, instead of put Broly calling Goku by "kakarot", they put him saying "sperm whale" or "cachalot"... Portugal is unique

Well, thanks for letting me know they censored the crap out of this show. Now I won't bother watching it on television. I can't believe they're pulling this crap in 2010. I thought they got over that...but oh, it's Nicktoons so they don't get it. Not yet at least. Hopefully they will someday, but I doubt it.

Okay, I walk upstairs turn on the TV and DBzKai is on.

I've gotta say, it was just plain bad. I don't even think I can deal with it anymore. You were right about the Special Beam Cannon thing. Sabat said they wanted to start fresh and get things more accurate this time, but it actually was a lot worse than it's ever been, even more so than the early Saban dub. They're just propagating the crap they started in the 90s. The VAs acted like they were talking to an audience of kindergartners. The lack of HD made it look just as bad as the original versions as well.

Goku's purple/black hole from the Japanese version literally became a big bruise and you could see they drew in the rest of his chest so there would be no hole. They cut out Raditz knocking Gohan out so he just raised his arm and Gohan went rolling, which looked absolutely ridiculous. The episode where Goku was killed, the words 'kill' and 'die' were edited out as if they were curse words.

Oh, and the theme song. That was terrible.

To make matters worse, ads were coming up during the show and were constantly covering the bottom portion of the screen.

I didn't like Nadolny's Gohan voice, but this new voice doesn't sound like a child. This dub has Gohan sounding like a teenage girl.

The only thing I liked about this dub was the narrator who sounds a lot like the narrator for the Japanese version and the fact that they're using the same episode names as the Japanese version does.


Overall, they're still using the incorrect names for everything they used to, and the acting is like I said, meant for children who just recently learned how to talk. Basically, it's a baby show. Stick with the Dragon Box or see if they did any better on the Blu-ray/DVD version (though I doubt they did) because this version is garbage.

Of course, retarded Canadian program, I flicked over to Nicktoons and DBZK wasn't even on, I searched the guide and it never even displays. So, I have yet to see DBZK.

DBZK sounded like a awesome idea, a true DB story closely following the manga, filler removed. But from what you guys are saying, it sounds very disappointing.

I'll guess I'll look it up on youtube one of these days, see what kind of mess they made with DBZ.

Actually the Japanese version of DBZ Kai looked far more accurate, Bardock was a bloody mess, they are not bound by our stupid American laws.

Maybe the lot of us should just remake DBZ ourselves, because apparently most Americans just can't seem to get it right.

Herro! I can't find English dubbed versions of DBZ Kai episodes but I did find a "next episode preview". Colleen's Gohan had one line in this preview and my ears exploded. Thats how bad she sounded. And what Son said about the new voice acting is true; it reminded me of those children shows you see on early morning tv!!

From what I've read here, it sounds like they've effed up big time. It should be a larf to see how bad it is. Sadly, because I'm in the UK, they either won't show it, or we'll have to wait for another 2 years for it...

If you want to watch it, stick with the Japanese version. This is crap is on the same level if not worse than 4Kids Entertainment shows.

I'm going to go ahead and cancel my DVR timer for it.

Krillin sounds, just so lame. sounds like there not even trying. Also, when Krillin was smacked away by Raditz, Goku's tone of voice is just wrong, h doesn't even sound all that worried.

Man, that editing the hole into bruise... that's serious crap...

I put more videos on there. I said something about how they edited that and Gohan getting KO'd by Raditz on the video and was immediately blocked and had my comment deleted, lol!

Also, apparently everyone hates Gohan's new voice. Maybe that's good and they'll show Colleen the door or make her change her voice more. She was good in Trinity Blood, but she's a terrible Gohan.

Also, this doesn't appear in any of these previews but they edited out all blood on Raditz. The part where he was coughing up blood had him looking squeaky-clean. Not even a little red line drawn in.

But the japanese version is also edited... much less blood for example! Clearly they made Kai just for the kids!!

Waaah!! None of Son's videos are there!! They were all removed by the user!!

Good thing I seen them when I could, or bad thing.
